Get involved and be part of something amazing - learn permaculture, winemaking, live sustainably and as part of the queer Quinta community project

Come and join the Quinta Volunteer Team in 2024!

Embark on a volunteer adventure on the Quinta Project in Portugal next year!  Be part of the fantastic team that is creating a self-sufficient farm project on the Quinta.

Together, we are creating vegetable gardens and a food forest, reclaiming old olive groves and terraced farmland. We plant, nurture, harvest, build, maintain and restore the abandoned farm to provide food for us and our community.

The farm is 5.5ha, most of which is wild forest. And you can join us in our 3ha organic vineyard, which we are slowly transforming with permaculture principles in mind. We produce olive oil and natural wine, alongside vegetables, fruits and herbs for our own consumption. We generate our electricity, have our own water and most of the delicious vegetarian meals contain ingredients from our two vegetable gardens, the budding food forest and our land.

We've opened up the calendar for 2024, and plenty of weeks are waiting to be filled! Last year, we had nearly 90 awesome volunteers join us. Want to jump in on the fun and be a part of the magic next year? During the 5-7 day stay, you'll gain permaculture, wine-making, building, and gardening skills while revelling in the liberating experience of rural life.

Accommodation is in a cosy single room or you can embrace the outdoors with a tent. Unfortunately, you can’t enter the farm with a caravan. Accommodation is free, and we share hearty meals in our vegetarian/vegan space. There is Wi-Fi, electricity, hot water, a washing machine and a great fireplace for cold days.

Engage in four hours of farm work daily, usually in the mornings. Activities include harvesting olives, fruits, and grapes, planting trees, tending vegetable beds, weeding, pruning, land clearing, and getting hands-on with natural wine-making and vineyard management.

Expect the company of one or two others on the land, plus three dogs, two cats, and a lively cast of wildlife from boars and foxes to wild cats and mongooses. The birdlife? It's a symphony of nature.

Ready to embrace the farm life? Great … let’s connect and have a chat. We have two open calls on Zoom if you are interested in volunteering. There we will explain how it works, what is involved, share experiences and, of course, answer questions you might have.
