Youth Climate Activism in Malaysia and Queer Pedagogy for Climate Justice.

Co-hosted by the Quinta project, join Q4JC as we explore why climate justice + international solidarity are important for queer / LGBT+ people.

 

Queers 4 Climate Justice was started on Climate Justice Day November 6th 2021. The aim is to provide a space for queer / LGBT+ people to explore more about environmental issues in the context of international solidarity.  This first the event, will have two presentations

 

“Queer Pedagogy for Climate Justice”

Dr Kieran Higgins is a Lecturer (Education) in Sustainable Development at Queen’s University Belfast. An environmental psychologist by discipline, Kieran’s work currently focuses on how best to teach competencies in leadership and education for sustainable development.

 

“Youth Climate Activism in Malaysia”

Aidil Iman Aidid has been mobilising environmental advocacy for four years, mainly through social media engagement on platforms like Twitter and Instagram. His specific interests lie in biodiversity protection, covering areas of wildlife trafficking, ecosystem governance and the call for nature-based solutions. Aidil was a communications campaigner at MyHutan, a movement powered by Undi18 that focuses on institutionalising forest conservation in Malaysia and currently does media work at Malaysian Youth Delegation (MYD), a youth civil society that engages in local climate change literacy and policymaking. He is also the founder of Kolektif Iklim, a youth-led environmental movement focused on strengthening the synergies between climate action and biodiversity protection in Malaysia. Aidil is currently pursuing his Bachelors of Arts International and Strategic Studies at University of Malaya.”
