It’s one of our favourite times of year\, when we come together to gather olives from the land—symbols of friendship\, peace\, abundance\, and sensual beauty. Olive oil brings us food\, light\, touch\, and connection\, making this harvest truly special. \nJoin us as we celebrate this rich tradition with our community. We’ll roll up our sleeves to pick olives\, then share in the joy of being together. Expect a week filled with laughter\, dancing\, singing\, great food\, and olives\, of course! SUMMARY:Ecoqueer Research Week
DESCRIPTION:Join us in September 2023 for a week of reading\, discussion\, and debate on the topic of ecoqueer theory. \nThe Quinta Project understands itself as an ecoqueer experimental space\, and we will spend the week teasing out the possibilities of the term. In what way can the two ideas of ecology and queerness excite\, illuminate\, and expand each other? What does it mean for our ecology to be queer\, or for our queerness to be ecological? \nDrawing on a wealth of writing – from interviews and magazine pieces to scholarly articles and monographs – we will think through how our land-based practice can benefit from an engagement with theory\, and how theory needs to adapt in order to accommodate and celebrate practice. We will consider how ecoqueer ideas might inform the way we live alongside each other\, interact with other species\, and use space and materials. \nEach day will offer opportunities for study and reflection\, as well as discussion over communal meals. We will also work the land together\, getting to know the practices of the Quinta Project in order to understand better how they resonate with the ideas of philosophers and theorists. By the end of the week\, we will use our developing ideas to revisit and revise the Quinta Manifesto\, shaping and sharpening the Quinta Project’s political aspirations. This will be a week of learning\, idea sharing\, and intellectual companionship as we continue our quest for the good ecoqueer life. \nArrival/Departure\nPlease arrive on Sunday afternoon. DESCRIPTION:In July 2023\, the Quinta Project will host its first creative week. \nOver the course of seven days\, we will produce an anthology of writing and images inspired by the Quinta’s 5.5 hectares of stunning land. Beneath soaring eagles\, in the shade of cork oaks and olive groves\, and to the sound of waterfall and cicadas\, we will write and craft our responses to this exquisite ecoqueer experimental space. \nWhether you are a budding beginner or a seasoned scribbler\, we would love you to join us. All forms and styles are welcome: short fiction\, poetry\, nature writing\, memoir\, and pencil sketch\, watercolour\, photography. \nOver communal meals each evening\, we will share our work and together build a collection which will communicate the project’s values and become the first publication of the newly-formed Quinta Press. In addition\, each day we will work the land together\, getting to know its rhythms and personality\, developing our sensory relationships with the landscape\, and taking part in creative workshops on topics ranging from movement and dance to craft and oral storytelling. \nMost importantly\, over the course of a week\, we will create community and shared experiences in this queer corner of the Alto Alentejo. \nArrival/Departure\nPlease arrive on Sunday afternoon. DESCRIPTION:Join the circle\, dear ones\, for a week of embodied ecofeminism. Reconnect with nature\, as nature. \nDuring our week at The Quinta Project we will create a temporary community where each one is responsible for the whole and all will contribute to the shape\, content\, and outcome of our time together. As we collect and review current applications certain themes have been presented that we wish to explore further during our time together. These include\, but are not necessarily limited to: \n-food sovereignty\n-sacredness of nature and celebration through ritual\, art\, and embodiment practices\n-cooperation with nature\n-reclaiming ancestral traditions and methods\n-collectivist models and co-creation\n-challenging binary notions\n-nurturing care for the land\, each other\, our self \nWhen applying for a place please indicate how you might contribute to the shape\, content\, or outcome for the week. Do you have an activity that you’d love to lead that ties in with one of the themes? Is there another theme you would like to add to the week? Do you have a special skill that you could offer? Frequently misinterpreted\, and maligned the Book and Darwin’s work provides a framework for thinking about the natural world\, and the impact it had tells us much about societies reaction to radical ideas. \nTom Blower grew with a deep fascination with the natural world. Graduating from Oxford with a degree in Zoology\, Tom participated in expeditions to the deserts of India and the rainforests of Borneo.  He has continued to learn supplementing his working career with further qualifications in Environmental Sciences\, Adult Education & Development.  He has lived and worked in Asia\, the Middle East\, London\, and Sussex\, where he currently lives.  A qualified executive coach\, Tom helps people change through dialogue\, experience and sharing insight. In all things he has tried to understand how systems work through balancing certainty with possibility and variability. DESCRIPTION:Autumn is the season of true abundance. Join us to celebrate this time of plenty on the Quinta! \nExperience community and enjoy the gifts of nature as we celebrate with our first theme week\, dedicated to harvesting and preserving food grown on the Quinta or produced locally. \nWorking together\, we will pickle\, ferment\, can\, cook\, dry\, and juice produce from the land. We may even try to make wine! Beyond preserving the food\, we invite you to explore with us the local (vegetarian) food scene. Try local delicacies\, and create imaginative dishes for the community from seasonal fruit and vegetables. \nEvery day\, we will have activities which will help us to connect to the land and the produce\, and to grow as a community. We will also offer off-site visits\, including trips to local markets and producers. All the delicious vegetarian or vegan food during the week will be shared as we come together to enjoy each other’s company and savour the fruits of our labour. To end the week\, we will have a closing celebration\, where we will invite local friends and neighbours to join us. \nAccommodation during the week will be in shared double rooms and/or a shared sleeping space at Community House. Alternatively\, you are invited to bring a tent to sleep on the land. For more information about accommodation and daily life at the Quinta\, click here. \nTo join the week\, please attend the online welcome meeting on 21 July at 5pm (details and registration here).\nIf you can’t attend\, please book a slot here to have a chat about the week. \nPlease note: the number of participants is limited to 10. DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by the Quinta project\, join Q4JC as we explore why climate justice + international solidarity are important for queer / LGBT+ people. \nQueers for Climate Justice was started on Climate Justice Day November 6th 2021. The aim is to provide a space for queer / LGBT+ people to explore more about environmental issues in the context of international solidarity.  This first the event\, will have two presentations \n“Queer Pedagogy for Climate Justice” \nDr Kieran Higgins is a Lecturer (Education) in Sustainable Development at Queen’s University Belfast. An environmental psychologist by discipline\, Kieran’s work currently focuses on how best to teach competencies in leadership and education for sustainable development. \n“Youth Climate Activism in Malaysia” \nAidil Iman Aidid has been mobilising environmental advocacy for four years\, mainly through social media engagement on platforms like Twitter and Instagram. His specific interests lie in biodiversity protection\, covering areas of wildlife trafficking\, ecosystem governance and the call for nature-based solutions. Aidil was a communications campaigner at MyHutan\, a movement powered by Undi18 that focuses on institutionalising forest conservation in Malaysia and currently does media work at Malaysian Youth Delegation (MYD)\, a youth civil society that engages in local climate change literacy and policymaking. He is also the founder of Kolektif Iklim\, a youth-led environmental movement focused on strengthening the synergies between climate action and biodiversity protection in Malaysia. DESCRIPTION:A 12-week journey to discover\, uncover\, recover and fully unleash your creativity\, passion and joy in this peer-supported group based on the book The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. \nWe follow the full 12 weeks of the course – as set out in the book. You need the book to follow this course. The book is available from your favourite bookseller (and online here).  There are various editions of the book\, so prices may vary. \nThe first week starts on the 19. September where we prepare and have a chance to get to know each other. After this\, we will proceed with one chapter/set of exercises each week. \n\n19 September: Welcome and get to know each other\n26 September: Chapter/Week 1\n3 October: Chapter/Week 2\n10 October: Chapter/Week 3\n17 October: Chapter/Week 4\n24 October: Chapter/Week 5\n31 October: Chapter/Week 6\n7 November: Chapter/Week 7\n14 November: Chapter/Week 8\n21 November: Chapter/Week 9\n28 November: Chapter/Week 10\n5 December: Chapter/Week 11\n12 December: Chapter/Week 12 – and goodbye!\n\nYou do not have to commit to attending all the time\, and you are welcome to join the group at any time.
